Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976, Mitchell joined WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years after that as a general reporter. Beginning in 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she became the head of the congressional reporters. She was promoted to the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was host and panelists on the TV show Meet the Press. She was on the panel in the presidential debates in 1988 with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news stories such as arms control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended many summits with the help of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
